Academic Doctorate in Public Adm. and Government (CDAPG)

Develops research and teaching activities related to the fields of study of the public sphere, with an emphasis on the relationship between public administration and civil society in the sub-national context. Among the themes favored by this line of research are: local governments; civil society participation in public policies; public action, civil society, the third sector and networks; social movements; rights, participation and citizenship, government, territoriality and governance. These themes include gender, race and age policies; social inclusion policies; social movements and issues of recognition; social control, transparency and accountability; the judiciary, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the prison system; inter-municipal consortia; rights and public policy management councils; information technology and development; local development and metropolitan management.

This line of research addresses the relationship between politics and the economy of the public sector, analyzing the levels of government from a political-institutional perspective. It works on the following themes: public revenue and expenditure; economic internationalization; the political economy of regulation; the relationship between political institutions and public spending; economic-institutional studies of corruption; monetary policy; regional development; the political economy of urban intervention; the efficiency of spending on public policies (especially education and health); macroeconomic policies associated with development strategies for middle-income countries and the management of local public finances; comparative politics; and electoral behaviour. Its importance for the public sector derives from its ability to connect the knowledge produced in Economic Sciences with the institutional approach of Political Science.

She studies new institutional and management models adopted by governments in contemporary democracies, with the aim of understanding patterns of state intervention. Its themes are related to the reforms proposed by New Public Management, New Public Governance and changes in institutions, particularly with regard to accountability and efficiency in the public sector, from a comparative perspective. The line of research deals with issues such as reform of the state apparatus, new models of public management, processes for defining and implementing public policies, democratic redefinition of the role of the Three Branches of Government, federalism and accountability, the role of the state in development models, the relationship between the state and the market, administrative reforms, sustainable development, policies for generating work and income and microcredit, and political and bureaucratic elites.
