Possui graduação em Engenharia Mecânica pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986), mestrado em Administração pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1994) e doutorado em Administração pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1999). Pesquisador visitante na Universidade da Carolina do Norte, Chapel Hill e Universidade Pan Americana do Texas. Professor Titular da Fundação Getúlio Vargas - EAESP. Seus nteresses de pesquisa são estratégia de operações e sustentabilidade em cadeias de suprimentos. Autor do livro Estratégia de Produção e de Operações. Editor Regional para América Latina do Journal of Supply Chain Management. Pesquisador CNPq.
