FGVces at COP30
We have a long track record of participating in the Conferences of the Parties (COP), but since 2011 the Center for Sustainability Studies at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGVces) has served as an “observer organization,” a category reserved for institutions engaged in research, teaching, outreach, and capacity-building on issues related to climate change.
At COP30, our presence will once again reflect what we do through applied research and our engagement with topics that are essential to the Conference:
- Impact-oriented research: For 20 years, we have contributed to the formulation of corporate strategies and public policies for climate change mitigation and adaptation. We also help develop fairer value chains and encourage companies, investors, and financial institutions to align their strategies with sustainability principles.
- Presence in the Amazon: We work directly in territories, including in the Brazilian Amazon. The Juruti Sustentável project, launched in 2006, generated territorial development indicators built from listening to communities affected by large-scale projects. This practice has become part of the Center’s DNA, which has carried out projects in Jirau and Belo Monte and, more recently, in the BR-319 corridor in the state of Amazonas.
- Education for sustainability: Through formal and informal teaching and learning processes, we train people to act strategically in complex systems, respecting planetary boundaries, confronting social inequalities, and reinventing people-centered organizations and economies focused on well-being and good living.
- Knowledge dissemination: Through social media, events, and media engagement, we bring the debate on socioenvironmental issues to the broader public in clear and compelling language.
