The controversies surrounding the country's public health are at the center of discussions of Brazil's healthcare system. What is the current public health scenario in the country and what to expect for the future?

Professionals in the area will discuss Brazil's public health system, in the context of responsibilities of the Union, States, Federal District and Municipalities. What are the responsibilities of these government divisions to SUS (Unified Health System) and how the institutions' commitments are reflected in the citizen's daily use of the public healthcare system? These and other important and relevant issues to the country are a part of FGVHealth Debates.

The discussions of the day start from the understanding of SUS as a complex healthcare system. It encompasses medical care, research, immunization, health surveillance and countless actions aimed at the welfare of all citizens. Diseases previously controlled, such as measles, congenital syphilis, tuberculosis and others, resurface in the most recent scenario of Brazil's public health. The newspapers repeatedly report the lack of doctors, equipments, supplies, hygiene, ventilation system in public health units. What led to this situation and what can we do about it? The subject debuts the week of FGVHealth Debates.

  • Member of FGVsaúde - Center for Planning and Health Management Studies in FGV EAESP 
  • Executive Director at the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology, at Hospital das Clínicas from the Medical School at USP
  • Teaching experience in postgraduate lato sensu courses in the area of Collective Health, with emphasis on Administration of Health Services 
  • Practice topics: organization and planning and hospital management and health services in the public and private sectors.
