Research line: Organizational Studies

The course offers a comprehensive introduction to Critical Management Studies, addressing the field as a theoretical, political and methodological tradition aimed at problematizing organizational practices and management knowledge itself. Throughout the course, both the historical origins and contemporary developments of the field will be discussed, with an emphasis on central themes such as power, subjectivity, ideology, identities and discursive practices. By reading classic and recent texts, students will be encouraged to reflect on the assumptions that guide the theory and practice of management. The course is based on the assumption that Critical Studies is an analytical lens capable of denaturalizing the social processes that structure the field of management, opening up space for more reflective, ethical and transformative approaches. In addition, it seeks to foster the development of an investigative stance that values epistemological plurality and the articulation between the material and subjective dimensions of organizational life, promoting dialogue between different critical strands - such as Marxism, post-structuralism, post-colonial studies and gender studies - and their implications for the understanding of organizations and contemporary management.
