Umesh Mukhi takes over as coordinator of FGV EAESP's Professional Master's in International Management

When it comes to internationalization, Umesh Mukhi is not just a theoretical expert. His own career is an example of the experience he hopes to expand for students in FGV EAESP's Professional Master's in International Management (MPGI). 

Born in India and trained as an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer at the University of Mumbai, Mukhi continued his academic journey in Europe, earning a Master's degree in Management from Audencia Business School, in France, and a PhD in Management from the University of Nantes. Throughout his career, he has also worked in different countries across Europe, Asia and Latin America, as well as in the United States. 

Today, as a faculty member at FGV EAESP, he teaches at the undergraduate, graduate and executive education levels. He has also been a visiting researcher at the United Nations in New York, working with the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), an initiative focused on responsible management education. 

It is this multicultural experience that Umesh brings to his new role as MPGI coordinator. For him, internationalization should not be seen simply as an opportunity to study abroad, but as a way to broaden perspectives, build connections and prepare professionals to work in an increasingly interconnected world. 

"From Brazil to the world" 

Umesh's vision for the MPGI starts with a simple idea: international education can begin in Brazil. "I want students to realize that the world is open to them. The master's program can be a starting point for discovering other cultures, building international relationships and realizing that their careers can go much further." 

In this context, one of the aspects the professor intends to emphasize is the opportunity for Brazilian students to pursue a fully English-language education in Brazil, while interacting with classmates from different nationalities and gaining access to an international network. "You can start in Brazil and, from here, build a global journey. That is one of the great opportunities the program offers." 

This vision is aligned with the different internationalization pathways available through the MPGI. Students can choose a dual-degree track, the CEMS experience, or the Brazil Track, which places particular emphasis on international diversity within the classroom and on building connections with people from different countries. Depending on the path they choose, students may have the opportunity to experience academic environments across up to three continents. 

More than studying in another country 

For Umesh, becoming a global professional means more than simply spending time abroad. "An international experience changes the way you see the world. You learn to listen to different perspectives, work across cultural differences and question what once seemed obvious." 

This perspective is closely connected to the professor's academic work, which focuses on areas such as cross-cultural leadership, organizational behavior, sustainability and pedagogical innovation. At the MPGI, he also teaches the Global Management Practices course, dedicated to management in different cultural contexts. 

International experience, therefore, is reflected both in the program's content and in the relationships built throughout the academic journey. "My goal is for students to graduate not only with an international degree, but with an international mindset. I want them to be able to walk into a room anywhere in the world and feel prepared to contribute."
