Programme Overview

The Dual Bachelor's Degree with Sciences Po and the Fundação Getulio Vargas – Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo (FGV EAESP) enables students to pursue the Bachelor’s programme at the Sciences Po Undergraduate College and the Bachelor’s in Public Administration or Business Administration at FGV EAESP.

The trilingual programme (French, English, and Portuguese) takes place over four years, split between the two institutions. The first two years are spent at the Sciences Po campus in Poitiers, within the Latin America and the Caribbean Minor, followed by two years in São Paulo at FGV EAESP.

The programme combines Sciences Po’s core disciplines (history, law, economics, political science, sociology) with management courses applied to the public or private sectors. It is also grounded in a solid progression in mathematics, the development of critical analysis regarding contemporary challenges faced by administrations, and practical experience through field visits or internships.

Programme Objectives

This programme aims to train public and private sector professionals capable of fostering dialogue between the Global North and South, with a strong awareness of global political and economic issues. To achieve this, it offers a curriculum rooted in a foundation of humanities and social sciences, alongside a specialisation in either public administration or business administration.

The First Two Years at SciencesPo

The multilingual dimension is highly pronounced: the curriculum is delivered either entirely in French, or with a first semester in English followed by a three semesters in French. Within the regional minor, courses are taught in French, Spanish, English, and Portuguese, reflecting the region's linguistic diversity and the goal of providing a genuinely multicultural education.

Students follow the full Sciences Po Bachelor's programmewith the sole exception that non-Portuguese speakers are required to take Portuguese language courses.

From the first year, students take part in remote orientation sessions with representatives from FGV EAESP alongside in-person academic advising at Sciences Po to choose their track: Public Administration or Business Administration

The majors chosen in the second year at Sciences Po must maintain academic consistency with the pathway for the third and fourth years at FGV EAESP. Thus, depending on the track chosen at FGV EAESP, the second-year major options at Sciences Po are as follows:

  • For the Bachelor’s in Public Administration track, the possible majors are:
    • Either Economics (Block 1) and Sociology (Block 2);
    • Or Political Science - Comparative Politics (Block 1) and Sociology (Block 2)
  • For the Bachelor’s in Business Administration track, all combinations of majors from Blocks 1 and 2 are possible:
    • Block 1: Economics, Political Science - Comparative Politics, Political Science - Political Theory
    • Block 2: Law, History, Sociology

The Following Two Years at FGV EAESP

The third and fourth years take place at FGV EAESP in São Paulo (Brazil), the country’s economic hub. Students join one of the two previously chosen tracks: the Bachelor’s in Public Administration or the Bachelor’s in Business Administration.

The curriculum aims to develop a broad understanding of management, social sciences, and public policy. Teaching is practice-oriented, featuring immersion modules (field visits, immersions at the local and federal levels or in the private sector.).

In addition to core courses and extracurricular activities, students must complete a bachelor’s thesis and a set number of hours devoted to practical experience:

  • In the Public administration track, these hours are achieved through three field visits spread across three semesters: one at the regional public administration level, one at the federal public administration level, and one within global public administration, all anchored in South–South dynamics.
  • In the Business administration track, practical hours are fulfilled by completing an internship.

Degrees awarded

Students who complete this programme obtain two degrees:

  • The Bachelor’s in Public Administration or Business Administration from FGV EAESP.
