FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship – Research on the Formulation and Implementation of the São Paulo Curriculum

The Center for Studies on the Implementation of Educational Policies (FGV CIPE), based at FGV EAESP, invites applications for a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship under the Science for Development Program (PCD), within the Science Centers for Development (CCD) initiative (FAPESP Process No. 2024/01101-0).

The successful candidate will join Axis 1, which focuses on the formulation and implementation of curriculum policies, under the scientific supervision of Professor Adriana Bauer of the Carlos Chagas Foundation (FCC).

 

Research project

The research project aims to investigate the challenges involved in the formulation and implementation of the São Paulo Curriculum across different levels of educational governance and management.

The study will combine qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine the perceptions, practices, and decision-making processes of education officials, school supervisors, principals, and pedagogical coordinators.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to a range of research activities, including:

  • Developing and validating research instruments;
  • Coordinating fieldwork across municipalities in the state of São Paulo;
  • Conducting interviews and focus groups;
  • Coordinating and managing a statewide survey;
  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; and
  • Preparing and publishing research articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals.

 

Candidate profile

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A PhD completed within the past seven years;
  • A background in Education, Public Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred;
  • Experience conducting research projects and strong proficiency in qualitative research methods;
  • A strong academic publication record over the past five years;
  • Full professional proficiency in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken;
  • Availability for full-time, exclusive dedication (40 hours per week); and
  • Availability to work in person and collaboratively at the Carlos Chagas Foundation (FCC) and FGV EAESP in São Paulo.

The call is open to both Brazilian and international applicants. International candidates must be willing to reside in the state of São Paulo for the duration of the research project and must comply fully with all applicable FAPESP requirements and regulations.

 

Fellowship and duration

  • Monthly stipend: R$12,570.00, in accordance with the FAPESP reference amount effective August 2026;
  • Technical Reserve: funding for expenses directly related to the research project;
  • Duration: 36 months, with the possibility of an extension of up to 12 additional months;
  • Commitment: full-time, exclusive dedication; and
  • Expected start date: following FAPESP approval of the fellowship application.

Applicants should submit the following documents:

  • A brief CV in English, of no more than four pages;
  • A cover letter in English, of no more than one page, explaining how the applicant’s academic background and research experience align with the position and its responsibilities; and
  • Three publications authored by the applicant, preferably articles published in indexed peer-reviewed journals.

The selection process will consist of an initial screening of applications and supporting documents, followed by individual interviews with shortlisted candidates.

Please note that selection by the host institution does not constitute an automatic award of the fellowship. The final award is subject to FAPESP’s review and approval.
