Leadership beyond management: the new imperative of digital organizations

An article by Anderson de Souza Sant'Anna, professor at FGV EAESP, published in the magazine GV Executivo , analyzes the contemporary challenges of leadership in the face of the fourth industrial revolution. The author proposes a reflection on the urgency of going beyond the operational skills of management and investing in the development of interpersonal, ethical and strategic capabilities.
In a scenario of intense digital disruption, the disproportionate emphasis on training technical managers has limited organizations' ability to adapt to the challenges of an increasingly complex business environment. While managerial skills ensure efficiency and immediate results, it is leadership that drives innovation, sustainability and transformation.
According to the article, leadership becomes especially relevant in light of the advance of automation and artificial intelligence, which have been replacing operational activities. The human difference lies in the ability to engage people, deal with uncertainty and create connections in flexible and distributed work networks. The 21st century manager needs to be ambidextrous: efficient in management and inspiring in leadership.
The proposal is clear: to invest strategically in the development of leaders who combine technical and interpersonal skills, becoming pillars for organizational performance and for Brazil's leading role in the global digital economy.
