FGV holds its first event with carbon neutralization

Last month, Fundação Getulio Vargas held its first event with carbon neutralization. The 2nd ERS Forum – Ethics, Social Responsibility and Sustainability took place at the School of Business Administration of São Paulo (FGV EAESP) and received the Neutral Event seal, which is the first carbon reduction, quantification and offset program for events in Brazil.
This was an initiative of the Department of Communication and Marketing (FGV DICOM), which has been committed to implementing actions aimed at sustainability, such as carbon neutralization. In the face of the world scenario, where ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) becomes increasingly relevant, it is extremely important that FGV joins these actions and makes the practice increasingly common.
Carbon offsetting aims to strengthen ESG and is the process by which an organization, event, or even a country tries to offset its carbon emissions. This involves offsetting the amount of CO₂ emitted with actions that remove or avoid the emission of greenhouse gases.
The organization
To carry out the action, several areas of FGV were activated, since it was necessary to inform the footage of the spaces where the event would be held, the number of generators used in these environments and their power in kilowatts (kW). Another relevant aspect was the identification of the origin of the public, as this directly impacts CO² emissions. In addition, the number of staff involved during the event was accounted for, as well as the number of speakers.
The chosen project
With this, the Getulio Vargas Foundation made a commitment to contribute to the REDD+ RESEX Jacundá Project, through its acquired carbon credits. For FGV EAESP professor Aron Belinky, the selection of the project took into account the reduction of carbon emissions and the preservation of an extractive region in the Amazon.
"My choice is based on the fact that this is an initiative that, in addition to reducing carbon emissions, also has important dimensions of protecting the environment. Being an extractive reserve, it also has an important cultural and human dimension, as it helps to guarantee the way of life of traditional populations, who have been fighting for the preservation of their way of life and subsistence. Congratulations to the FGV DICOM events team for the initiative, and thank you for bringing this dimension to FGV EAESP events", said the professor.
REDD+ RESEX Jacundá
The Jacundá RESEX REDD+ Project focuses on investing in improving the quality of life of communities and monitoring forest cover and biodiversity. The RESEX is located in a region of great pressure for the predatory exploitation of natural resources and suffers from a lack of basic public services. In this context, the residents found in the REDD+ Project a solution for the social development and conservation of the forests in their territory.
