Artificial intelligence in leadership challenges traditional governance models
An article by Eduardo Chukr Mafra Ney, a PhD candidate at FGV EAESP and an executive in the area of Finance and Strategic Planning, explores the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on senior organizational leadership. Published in the magazine GV Executivo , the study investigates the different stages of integration between humans and machines in boards and directorates, pointing out risks, opportunities and possible paths.
As AI evolves and gains analytical and predictive capabilities, its presence in strategic decisions also grows. Cases such as the AIs “Alicia T.” and “Einstein” — already used by large companies — show that the participation of intelligent systems in executive meetings is no longer fiction. According to a survey by the World Economic Forum, 45% of IT professionals believe that, by 2025, AI will be an autonomous member of boards.
The article differentiates the impacts between weak AI — used for analytical support — and strong AI, which simulates human cognitive processes and is capable of making complex decisions independently. In both cases, the author proposes that corporate governance prepare for a new era, in which leadership, ethics and technology will be increasingly interconnected.
