Study with recruiters shows that artificial intelligence makes selection of candidates more efficient

According to Human Resources professionals, artificial intelligence makes the job of recruiting and selecting candidates more efficient and agile. In an article published in the magazine “Cadernos EBAPE.BR”, researchers from the São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP) Daniel Blumen and Vanessa Martines Cepellos also point out that the implementation of technologies in organizational processes tends to occur from the headquarters to the branches.

The authors conducted 12 interviews with HR professionals from companies in the pharmaceutical sector located in the state of São Paulo and with at least five years of experience in recruitment and selection. The interviews took place by videoconference between April and June 2021.

Among the recruitment trends mapped by the article are the initial screening of candidates from virtual platforms, with alignment with the company's culture being one of the criteria for selecting professionals. Recruiters report that they use artificial intelligence more frequently in openings for operational positions, which receive the highest volume of applications.

The video interview became another trend during the Covid-19 pandemic, having been used during this period in selections for practically all positions. All HR professionals interviewed use the LinkedIn social network passively – to publicize vacancies – and actively – to search for talent through specific search filters.

Recruiters are concerned about the decrease in human contact during selection, and point out that algorithms can bias processes, as potential candidates may not master technological resources that allow them to be located in the active search. On the other hand, the interviewees are concerned about including search terms that ensure the inclusion of minority groups, in order to guarantee diversity in recruitment.
