Sustainable strategic management requires integration between leadership, culture, and results, research shows.

An article by Thomaz Wood Jr., full professor at FGV EAESP, and Adriano Bertoldo Alves, DBA from FGV EAESP, published in GV Executivo magazine , analyzes how organizations can implement sustainable strategic management capable of integrating economic and socio-environmental objectives.

This research stems from the challenge faced by companies in different sectors when recognizing the importance of sustainability, but encountering difficulties in effectively incorporating it into their strategic processes. Based on action research conducted over 36 months in a Brazilian industrial group, the study proposes a practical framework to guide this transformation.

The investigation used the Strategy as Practice approach, combined with action research, and was structured in four cycles of change: governance and leadership, strategic guidelines, action flows, and organizational culture. The results show that strategic sustainability depends on the engagement of senior leadership, integration between practices and people, and a continuous process of organizational learning.
