M'Boi Urban Research Station

Platform for information, relationships and organizational links

The M'Boi Urban Research Station is a platform for information, relationships and organizational links. It seeks to bring together researchers, activists, land-based organizations and community leaders on the issues it deals with. The platform brings together scientists working on urban issues. The topics are divided into four axes of investigation.

• Microfinance

The subjects covered by the M'Boi Urban Research Station include other themes such as vulnerability and mobility. They gave rise to the following studies: Strategies to Combat Social Youth Vulnerability and Local Development; Living in a Risk Area: a study on environmental risk management from the perspective of people in situations of vulnerability; and Women's Mobility and the Adequacy of Public Transport on the Outskirts of São Paulo.

The initiative focuses on a specific territory, made up of the districts of Jardim Ângela, Jardim São Luís, Capão Redondo and adjacent areas in the south of São Paulo. The Station thus makes it possible to maximize the possible synergies between different urban themes, both in the exchange of quantitative and qualitative information between researchers and in the potential impact of the results of their investigations on local territorial development.

The development of this work has led to presentations at congresses, researcher forums and seminars, as well as the launch of books, booklets and videos. The research platform also carries out a series of other initiatives every year.

Estação M'Boi's studies are carried out by researchers from the Center for Studies in Public Administration and Government (FGVceapg) at FGV EAESP and by the platform's partner researchers.

The axis aims to disseminate local knowledge that stands out in the fight against youth social vulnerability, both among other agents in the region and beyond. Learn more.

• Versions of decent housing on the southern outskirts of the city of São Paulo

Responsible: Mary Jane Spink

The aim of the research is to understand the version of decent housing that circulates in the districts of Jardim Ângela and Jardim São Luís (M'Boi Mirim Regional Prefecture). Read more.

Professor responsible: Lupicínio Iñiguez-Rueda

The aim of this project is to find out how well public transport services are adapted to women's mobility patterns in the southern region of São Paulo. Read more.

The study focuses on governmentality strategies and their effects on the construction of personal regimes. Read more.

Funding sources

The M'Boi Urban Research Station's Applied Research Project was approved by the Getulio Vargas Foundation's Applied Research Fund. The platform receives support and funding from FGVpesquisa, which is responsible for developing scientific and applied research at the Getulio Vargas Foundation. The initiative also receives funding from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), which develops research in Brazil. This incentive was granted through two processes, No. 306927/2011-0, Peter Kevin Spink Productivity Scholarship, and No. 404307/2015-9, Lupicínio Iñiguez-Rueda Visiting Researcher.
