FGV Cities

A center for innovation in urban public policies.

FGV CIDADES works to increase access to opportunities for the most vulnerable population living isolated on the outskirts of Brazilian cities through urban public policies focused on transportation and housing, in order to generate economic development and reduce inequalities through innovation.

After 5 years of research in the areas of Mobility, Social Housing, Education and Innovation, FGV CIDADES was created. The center has an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the areas of Public Policy and Government, Economics, Transport, Law and Data Science.

With the aim of enabling processes to create urban solutions capable of tackling the chronic problems of unequal opportunities that feed the vicious cycle of poverty on the outskirts of Brazilian cities, starting with improving public transport and offering social housing closer to the business center, the center has two laboratories: analytics and experimentation, and works with national and international partnerships with innovation environments.
