The increasing levels of competitiveness and dynamism in the business environment have had a strong impact on the world of work, sparking a debate about the reconfiguration of the traditional career model. New modalities have been proposed, especially careers without borders and protean careers, united by an emphasis on employability, subjectivity and career self-management. Over the last two decades, criticism has been levelled at these models, on the grounds that they fail to recognize the impact of various contextual influences - such as sector of activity, culture, gender, ethnicity and social class - on career paths. The main aim of this course is to reflect on the debate about permanence and rupture in careers today and the impact on career and people management.
