This course analyzes the main challenges of the transition from a carbon-intensive economy vulnerable to climate impacts to a low-carbon, resilient economy. It starts from an understanding of the climate crisis as a complex phenomenon with multi-level governance that requires coordinated action between governments, companies and civil society.
Three main themes will be discussed:
i) regulatory and governance issues at the global and national levels;
ii) the role of companies and the state in formulating medium and long-term strategies;
iii) planning and reasoning in the face of the complexity inherent in collective decision-making on climate.

The course covers the main public policies and business initiatives underway, with an emphasis on the transformations promoted by the post-2020 climate agenda, such as the Paris Agreement and SDG 13. From the perspective of climate and economic risks, the motivations and foundations for building climate strategies in different sectors will be analyzed.
Among the concepts and instruments discussed are: climate governance, carbon pricing, economic instruments, mitigation and adaptation, emissions management and argumentative processes aimed at building public policies and corporate strategies. The impacts of the climate agenda on public policies and business practices will be critically debated, with a focus on the strategic positioning of companies in this context.
