International Career: find out more about the path to working abroad

Those who dream of pursuing an international career face some challenges such as cultural differences, legal challenges and adapting to a new organizational environment. With this in mind, an interview was held with Camila Tsibana, founder and CEO of Beyond HR, master in International Management from the School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP), what tips she would give to those who want to start an international career:

“In addition to seeking internationally recognized diplomas and certifications, it is also essential to expand your network of contacts. Work on your networking through international conferences, professional organizations or on social media.”

It is also important to ensure that your skills are applicable in global contexts. Understand which hard skills in your current area of activity are valued internationally. And also work on your soft skills, which represent personal assets capable of generating benefits across borders. Work on your communication and storytelling, collaboration and critical thinking.

Language proficiency, obviously, is also very relevant. Knowledge of English nowadays has become a necessity, not a differentiator. Also focus on improving yourself in languages relevant to your area or regions of interest.” Furthermore, according to Camila, the market has been looking for a curious professional with high adaptability.

“In a globalized world, the ability to understand and adapt to diverse cultural nuances is highly valued. This involves being able to navigate and communicate effectively in various cultural contexts. Furthermore, it is important to be able to understand different cultures and environments without bias. Companies look for professionals who stand out in diverse environments, who are curious and have a mindset that allows them to see similarities and opportunities between different markets, processes and customer demands and needs.

It is also essential to stay up to date on geopolitical trends, economic developments and regulatory changes that may affect global markets. Being able to understand market dynamics and think strategically on a global scale is a valuable asset for professionals who want to make a significant impact in international careers.”

The idea is, before applying, to better understand what the market is like in the place you want to go and how you can stand out in that context, with your cultural background, competence and soft skills being a differentiator. FGV EAESP has a Professional Master's Degree in International Management that leverages opportunities to start a career outside the country.
