The Advantages of a Double Degree with FGV and Yale

The Professional Master’s in International Management (MPGI) at FGV EAESP offers its students a unique opportunity: the possibility of earning a double degree with the School of Management at Yale University, in the United States. The agreement allows students to complete the first year at FGV and the second year at Yale, ultimately receiving a diploma from each institution — a combination that opens doors around the world.

The process to secure a spot is long and competitive. That’s why MPGI and FGV’s Global Affairs Office provide comprehensive support and consulting throughout every stage of the application. This close guidance increases students’ chances of success and stands out as a key advantage for those aiming to build an international career.

Admitted students enroll in Yale’s Master's Degree in Global Business & Society (MMS: GBS) program, which combines academic rigor with training that is highly demanded in the international market. In addition, MPGI students benefit from not participating in Yale’s open international admissions process, competing instead within a smaller pool of candidates nominated by Yale’s partner institutions.

Enriching Academic and International Experience

Fernando Morey Perez, who has already completed the double degree, emphasizes that the program offers more than academic knowledge: “After graduation, I was hired by the university. I stood out at Yale through my grades and engagement, and now I work in internal consulting at the university. The program also allows you to work in the U.S. for up to three years after graduation without the need for company sponsorship. It’s a tremendous opportunity for those looking to start an international career,” he explains.

Fernando highlights that Yale’s experience is based on three pillars: academic excellence, social development through networking, and intense preparation for recruitment processes. "Recruitment processes are difficult and long. For those who are ambitious, the double degree offers deep knowledge and a challenging multicultural environment."

Global Perspective and New Opportunities

Nuno Li, a Chinese student who is completing his MPGI at FGV and preparing to move to Yale, shares that he was seeking an international path for his career: "I chose Portuguese as a new language to challenge myself and to better understand the dynamics between Brazil and China. FGV is very international, with partnerships like CEMS and a strong focus on developing countries, which attracted me a lot," he says.

Regarding his decision to pursue the Yale program, Nuno is clear: "Seeing this combination of FGV and Yale, such prestigious universities, is like finding a key that can open many doors. The specialization in data and the strong quantitative training at Yale are major differentiators. I’m being strategic about my career, and I know this experience will be crucial."

Practical Training and Competitive Edge

Lukas Tarnow, a Brazilian student with a degree in Economics from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, is also preparing to transition to Yale. For him, practical experience was one of the highlights of the MPGI: "The FGV system is very focused on real-world problems, with many practical assignments, unlike the theoretical undergraduate program I had in Germany. That was one of the reasons I chose FGV."

From the beginning, Lukas had the goal of achieving the double degree: "I came to Brazil already planning to go to Yale. Two master’s degrees in two years is incredible. Moreover, Yale offers great freedom in building your academic curriculum, allowing you to take courses in other areas and further expand your network."

He also highlights the welcoming approach of the American university: "My recruiter personally called me to congratulate me when I was accepted. I even received a personalized welcome kit. I already feel like part of the community."

A Journey of Preparation and Great Achievements

For those interested in the double degree with Yale, the testimonies of Fernando, Nuno, and Lukas make it clear: it requires dedication, long-term vision, and preparation. In return, students have the opportunity to experience academic excellence, broaden their international horizons, and significantly strengthen their careers.
