2024 Retrospective: FGV celebrates the inauguration of the Professor Antonio Angarita Building in São Paulo

On Monday evening, April 8, the Getulio Vargas Foundation held the inauguration ceremony for the “Professor Antonio Angarita Building,” located at Rua Professor Picarolo, 63 - Bela Vista, in São Paulo. The building will be used as the headquarters for the São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP). The event marks the beginning of the celebrations for FGV’s 80th anniversary and the seven decades of FGV EAESP’s history.
The meeting was attended by the president of FGV, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, the director of FGV EAESP, Luiz Artur Ledur Brito, as well as professors and members of the FGV community. It also featured a performance by the Monte Cristo String Quartet. During his speech, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal reflected on the meaning and impact of the construction of the new building. He emphasized that "the work of the Foundation is never complete" and that the building is a dream come true, but there is still much work to be done . He recalled the trajectory of FGV EAESP and also paid tribute to Professor Antonio Angarita, highlighting his legacy of academic excellence and commitment to educational innovation.
Antônio Angarita was a professor at FGV and was a key figure in the founding and management of two important schools at the institution: EAESP, in 1954, and FGV Direito SP, in 2002, standing out for his contributions over more than six decades. Born in Amazonas and graduated in Law from UFMG, he developed his career in São Paulo, holding positions in the state public administration and at Vasp, in addition to having played a relevant role in the process of redemocratization of Brazil.
Throughout the ceremony, the speakers’ speeches highlighted the importance of the event and Professor Angarita’s contribution to the institution. Professor Maria Tereza Fleury addressed topics such as the importance of organizational culture and the evolution of the business school. She expressed gratitude for having worked with Professor Angarita and for sharing the same values and mission with the FGV project.
In turn, Professor Luiz Arthur Ledur Brito emphasized the growth and internationalization of the school, announcing plans to attract students from all over Brazil and abroad, positioning FGV EAESP as a leader in the region.
After the speeches, in a symbolic gesture, the inauguration plaque was unveiled, marking the beginning of a new era for the Foundation. The event then continued with performances by the Symphonic Quartet of the Orchestra of Monte Cristo, enchanting those present with their music, followed by a cocktail party to celebrate this historic moment.
The inauguration of the Professor Antonio Angarita Building represents another milestone in the successful trajectory of FGV EAESP, a business school internationally recognized for its academic excellence and commitment to educational innovation.
