Research presents dilemmas and advances of women in the management of organizations
Gender studies have been gaining strength in the contemporary scenario from the social belonging of the theme and from discussions that touch on diversity, equity and inclusion. Therefore, pointing out contemporary dilemmas and advances to ensure the full and effective participation of women at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life is the main objective of the authors Maria José Tonelli (professor at FGV EAESP) and Adriana Carvalho (CEO of Generation Brasil).
Published in the magazine GV-Executivo, the article focuses on business initiatives aimed at women in an imaginary that is still so masculine. See below some actions that are being carried out on policies and practices in organizations in Brazil:
- Gender and Race Pro-Equality Program - Launched by the federal government to drive the evolution of gender and race issues in companies, it initially had an impact on state-owned companies and later gained support from private companies.
- Rede Mulher Empreendedora - The organization promotes female entrepreneurship through events, acceleration programs, courses, marketplace, among other actions .
- Women in the Spotlight Forum - Organized by CKZ Diversidade, it is a meeting of leaders for the cause of gender equality and counts on the cooperation of UN Women and ElesPorElas.
- Movimento Mulher 360 – The performance platform is structured in three dimensions, promotion, systematization and dissemination of knowledge and practices, with the objective of accelerating the advancement of gender equality in companies and in their value chains.
- Grupo Mulheres do Brasil - It has projects to encourage the adoption of affirmative policies and eliminate gender, racial and social inequalities.
Challenges in the area
The authors bring an example of the feminist movement as a symbolic force of the importance of diversity not only in the corporate universe, but in other spheres of society.
“Current feminist movements, reinforced by #metoo, bring a diversity of perspectives to the issue of gender. The access of women in the organizational space provokes new identities and conceptions of femininity and questions dominant models of conduct, but it is worth calling attention to the superficiality that sometimes surrounds these movements, with set phrases, clichés and fads that permeate the corporate world”, highlighted.
With this, progress can be seen in organizational issues, but themes such as:
- Salary differences;
- Double working hours and family x professional conflicts;
- Domestic violence;
- Aging of executive women;
- Leadership position for black women;
- Burnout, especially after the pandemic.
This is not about antagonism between men and women, but about collaboration towards inclusive and equitable societies. The pandemic crisis that occurred in 2020 marked the end of an extensive 20th century, and now we ask ourselves how we will shape the 21st century.
“The challenge is to seek ethical paths for the development of companies and solutions for the problems pointed out by the UN SDGs”, highlighted Maria José and Adriana.
