Brazil’s beef sector sits at the center of some of today’s most pressing sustainability challenges, including deforestation, climate change, global trade regulation, and rural development. Over the past years, the Amazônia+10 project has examined how governance mechanisms, from traceability systems and due diligence regulations to public policies and multi-level partnerships, are reshaping the Brazilian Amazon beef value chain.

This half-day workshop marks the conclusion of the beef-focused research within Amazônia+10 and brings together researchers and key stakeholders from across the sector (NGOs, companies, producers, intermediaries, and policymakers) to both share research findings and explore future collaboration opportunities.

The event is structured around three core tensions shaping beef sustainability governance today:

Visibility vs. Governability: What traceability and monitoring systems make visible — and what remains structurally unseen.

Global Authority vs. Local Capacity: How global regulations and market pressures interact with fragmented and uneven territorial governance.

Compliance vs. Transformation: Whether current governance arrangements merely manage risk or can enable deeper, long-term sustainability transitions.

The first part of the workshop will focus on presenting key results from the Amazônia+10 research. The second part will shift toward identifying concrete pathways for future work, including collaborative research and innovation opportunities with stakeholders in the room.

Rather than a traditional conference format, the workshop will combine short, focused research inputs with structured discussions and interactive sessions designed to surface shared priorities, practical constraints, and potential joint initiatives.

Participants can expect an open, analytical, and forward-looking conversation grounded in empirical research and real-world experience, with the aim of strengthening networks and shaping the next phase of sustainability governance in the Brazilian beef sector.

The event is intended for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and private-sector actors interested in sustainability governance, traceability, and the future of beef production in the Amazon and beyond.
