Maria Rita Garcia Loureiro Durand
She holds a master's degree and doctorate in Sociology from the University of São Paulo (1984), post-doctorate in Sociology at École des Hautes Études in Social Sciences in Paris (1986-88) and in Political Science at the New York University (1999-2000). She is a full professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (in Public Administration and Government) and at the Faculty of Economics (FEA), in the University of São Paulo (retired in March 2014). She is a member of the International Political Science Association, the editorial committee of the Brazilian Political Science Review and the editorial board of the Journal of Political Economy and the Public Service Magazine. Her area of work today is State, Government and Government Institutions, conducting research and publishing mainly on the following topics: democracy, democratic controls, relationships between politics and bureaucracy, ruling elites, fiscal policy, transparency and public spending. She is currently a researcher at CNPQ.
